Rio Sul Shopping
Description
The Rio Sul Shopping project consists of a large-scale interior and exterior retrofit. The intervention is guided by the enhancement of the existing building and the updating of its architectural image. The proposal was based on maintaining the original structural framework in its entirety. As a result, demolitions were avoided and a more sustainable and rational use of resources was reinforced.
On the exterior, an architectural exoskeleton was designed to wrap around the building. In this way, the complex was given a new identity and a more contemporary character. This new “skin” plays both an expressive and functional role. In addition, it contributes to environmental comfort by creating shading and areas for permanence. At the same time, a green core and pergolas over the parking areas help improve the microclimate. Consequently, more protected areas are created for both cars and pedestrians.
Inside, the commercial areas were fully renovated, removing a dated and thematic architectural language. Instead, a more timeless approach was proposed. This strategy is supported by noble, neutral and durable materials. Thus, quality and long-term relevance are ensured.
The total intervention area was approximately 22,000 sqm. As a result, the complex became more efficient and renewed. Finally, the building is now aligned with contemporary demands in terms of use, comfort and urban presence.
