Roma Apartments

Description

Roma Apartments involves the renovation of a 365.85 m² apartment, originally built around 40 years ago, reflecting a precise intervention within contemporary architecture in Portugal. Designed by Contacto Atlântico, a top architecture firm in Portugal, the project aligns with the principles of high-end architecture, combining spatial clarity, technical improvement, and everyday functionality.

The intervention goes beyond a simple aesthetic update, addressing issues related to ageing and use while improving comfort, efficiency, and the overall organisation of space. The goal is to create a contemporary living environment adapted to current needs without unnecessary complexity.

Architectural Design, Materiality and Performance

The reorganisation of the layout brings social and private areas closer together, simplifying circulation and reinforcing spatial coherence. Routes become clearer and more direct, improving usability and the perception of space.

Key technical upgrades include the replacement of window frames, a redesigned lighting system, and improvements in insulation and natural ventilation. These interventions enhance both environmental performance and indoor comfort.

Materiality is defined by durability and ease of maintenance. Materials such as wood and stone are used to create a calm and consistent atmosphere, supporting both aesthetic quality and long-term performance.

The kitchen and bathrooms are redesigned to improve ergonomics and storage capacity, ensuring practical and efficient daily use. Balconies are more directly connected to the living areas, strengthening the relationship between interior and exterior while maintaining solar protection.

Leading Architecture Firm in Portugal: Comfort and Everyday Living

The relationship between architecture and living is central to the Roma Apartments project, ensuring that each design decision contributes to comfort, clarity, and adaptability.

Roma Apartments stands as a clear example of how residential renovation can transform an existing space into a contemporary and functional home. As part of Contacto Atlântico’s portfolio, it reinforces the studio’s position as a leading architecture firm in Portugal, recognised for delivering refined and user-centred residential solutions.
