Miradouro S. Jorge

Description

Miradouro S. Jorge is a single-family house located in the scenic cove of Arco de São Jorge, on Madeira Island. Designed by Contacto Atlântico, the house sits on a 1320 m² plot. It makes the most of the island’s natural slope and the wide views over the Atlantic Ocean.

The architecture features clean lines and a minimalist approach. Light-toned concrete panels shape the façade. In contrast, a staircase made of natural wood adds both functionality and a sculptural presence. It connects the upper levels while creating a strong link with the surrounding landscape.

Thanks to its position, the house enjoys excellent sun exposure. Carefully placed windows frame the sea and allow generous daylight to enter. Stone walls and native plants around the house highlight the island’s character and reinforce the connection to nature.

Inside, the materials stay simple. Wood and concrete define the spaces and create a warm but solid feel. Every space was designed to be efficient and comfortable. As a result, the home offers a unique living experience shaped by the light, the sea breeze, and the natural setting.

This house reflects Contacto Atlântico’s vision: creating modern, sustainable architecture that adapts to the local environment.
