Blue Palace

Description

Blue Palace, historically known as the Palácio Azul for the colour of its façade, sits between Praça da Alegria and Rua da Conceição da Glória. The project clarifies and strengthens the heritage value of the Pombaline building with a careful rehabilitation that returns use to a structure once abandoned.

The intervention repairs roofs and façades, refurbishes openings and stonework, and integrates building services discreetly. Inside, the organisation now includes reception, guestrooms and support areas, while keeping the Pombaline structure, the staircases and the characteristic ceiling heights. Where full conservation was not possible, the team applied compatible materials and reversible solutions. There is no increase in volume, and thermal and acoustic performance, accessibility and safety all improve. In this way, the Blue Palace reactivates the urban frontage and returns a reference building to the block, aligned with its privileged location.
