Julião 37
Description
Julião 37 is a rehabilitation project by Contacto Atlântico. It is located in Baixa Pombalina, one of Lisbon’s most historic neighborhoods, just steps away from the Tagus River.
The building has a gross area of 1,150 m² and includes seven floors. It now hosts tourist accommodation, reception areas, vertical circulation, and support zones. The layout was redesigned to improve comfort and functionality.
Contacto Atlântico preserved key elements of the original structure. These include the central staircase, traditional façade, and the original window openings. At the same time, the project introduced efficient systems that support thermal comfort, acoustic insulation, and energy savings.
Inside, materials like light wood, white stucco, and natural stone create a timeless and refined ambiance. Bathrooms and technical areas were fully upgraded with elegant, durable finishes.
A major strength of Julião 37 lies in its architectural balance. The design respects the building’s historical identity, yet provides a contemporary experience for tourists and guests. This is how urban rehabilitation supports heritage and revitalization at once.
Protecting Portuguese heritage through architecture is essential. It preserves cultural memory, enriches the city, and promotes sustainable tourism.
