Villa Azinheira
Description
Villa Azinheira is a luxury residence located within the Herdade da Costa Terra Golf & Ocean Club, in Melides, representing a refined expression of contemporary architecture in Portugal. Designed by Contacto Atlântico, a top architecture firm in Portugal, the project draws inspiration from traditional Alentejo architecture while establishing a strong and deliberate connection with the surrounding landscape. This balance between tradition and innovation reflects a clear commitment to high-end architecture, where identity, context, and design excellence are seamlessly integrated.
Developed through the collaboration of architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture teams, the villa offers a discreet and sophisticated living experience. Organised over three floors, with a total gross construction area of 654.59 sqm, the house accommodates five suites, a study, game and cinema rooms, a wine cellar, and generous social areas that open directly to the exterior. This programmatic structure supports both privacy and shared living, ensuring a balanced and functional residential environment.
Architecture, Materiality and Landscape Integration
The architectural concept is defined by generous circulation spaces and carefully positioned openings that frame views of the golf course and the Atlantic Ocean. These visual connections reinforce the relationship between interior and exterior, creating a continuous dialogue with the surrounding territory.
Materiality plays a central role in shaping the identity of Villa Azinheira. The use of rendered façades, corten-finished aluminium frames, Moleanos stone, and ceramic tiles ensures durability while maintaining a restrained and elegant architectural language. These materials are selected not only for their performance but also for their ability to integrate naturally into the Alentejo landscape.
The exterior areas are designed as an extension of the interior spaces. The terrace includes a swimming pool, fireplace, pergola, and an alfresco dining area, all conceived to support year-round outdoor living. This approach enhances the overall spatial experience and reinforces the connection between architecture and environment.
Leading Architecture Firm in Portugal: Comfort and Experience
The relationship between architecture and landscape is central to the project, guiding the design towards a living experience rooted in tranquillity and contemplation. Each element is carefully considered to ensure comfort, functionality, and visual coherence.
Villa Azinheira stands as a clear example of how architecture can respond to both place and programme with precision and sensitivity. As part of Contacto Atlântico’s portfolio, it reinforces the studio’s position as a leading architecture firm in Portugal, recognised for delivering refined residential projects that combine tradition, innovation, and long-term value.
Contacto Atlântico served as Local Architect for this project. The Concept Architect is Hart Howerton.
