At the request of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Loulé, a recovery intervention was carried out in the old hospital building.
Changes have been made in the internal functional organization in order to adapt the building to the planned requirements and the new regulations, not to change their volumes or area. A new building was also built on three wings containing valences and additional technical facilities required for the duration of the program.
The program includes an outpatient unit, a unit of physiotherapy, orthopedics, traumatology, continuous care, surgical support activity inpatients and two operating rooms and technical areas.
The main concern of the project is the harmonious integration in the urban landscape and its surroundings. Taking into account the specificity of the Misericordia church, a monument with a Manueline portal that is integrated into the hospital building, a very careful rehabilitation was done with major concern on the heritage protection of the site.
