Associação das Empresas Familiares
Description
The office renovation for the Associação das Empresas Familiares, located on Rua Castilho in Lisbon, reflects a clear and refined approach to contemporary architecture in Portugal. The intervention focuses on maximising natural light from the street façade while creating an open-plan workspace defined by simplicity, clarity, and functionality. Developed by Contacto Atlântico, a top architecture firm in Portugal, the project aligns with the principles of high-end architecture, where spatial efficiency and identity are carefully integrated.
The design establishes a cohesive working environment that prioritises openness and visual continuity. Natural light becomes a central element, enhancing the perception of space and contributing to a comfortable and productive atmosphere.
Architectural Design, Materiality and Spatial Organisation
The open workspace is structured around a continuous built-in element that wraps the perimeter. Finished in the same material as the flooring, this element defines workstations arranged parallel to two long glass planes. These transparent surfaces introduce a strong architectural presence while separating different functional zones without interrupting visual flow.
Materiality is treated with consistency and restraint, ensuring a unified spatial language throughout the office. The continuity between floor and built-in elements reinforces the perception of order and coherence, while the use of glass enhances light distribution and spatial clarity.
The meeting room is designed with two distinct accesses: a formal entrance and a secondary, more private connection to the workspace. This dual access improves flexibility and supports different modes of use, from formal meetings to internal collaboration.
The entrance area integrates a pantry and a restroom, both designed with materials aligned with the overall concept. This integration ensures continuity across all spaces, maintaining a consistent architectural expression.
Leading Architecture Firm in Portugal: Workplace and Identity
The relationship between architecture and workspace is central to the project, ensuring that design decisions support both functionality and organisational identity. The result is a homogeneous and efficient office environment, where circulation, materiality, and spatial clarity are seamlessly connected.
This intervention demonstrates how a clear architectural strategy can transform workplace environments into coherent and adaptable spaces. As part of Contacto Atlântico’s portfolio, it reinforces the studio’s position as a leading architecture firm in Portugal, recognised for delivering refined and functional office design solutions.
