Cactus Villa
Description
Cactus Villa is located in the centre of Melides, set within a calm and natural landscape where the vegetation of the Alentejo meets the influence of the sea. The project reflects a sensitive approach to contemporary architecture in Portugal, where integration with the site and respect for the surrounding environment define the architectural response. Designed by Contacto Atlântico, a top architecture firm in Portugal, the project follows the principles of high-end architecture, combining simplicity, precision, and a strong connection to nature.
The brief is shaped by the character of the site, prioritising landscape integration and a continuous relationship between interior and exterior spaces. The goal is to create a living environment that is both calm and immersive, closely aligned with its natural context.
Architectural Design, Materiality and Landscape Integration
The architectural scheme settles naturally on the ground, adapting to the irregular topography and sandy soil. The building follows the cadence of the landscape through a simple and restrained composition, ensuring minimal impact on the surroundings.
A continuous exterior route connects all areas of the house, structuring movement and reinforcing the relationship between built form and open space. This element becomes a key component in the spatial experience, linking different functions while maintaining fluidity.
Materiality plays a central role in the project. The selection of natural materials supports durability and visual coherence, while reinforcing the connection to the landscape. Neutral tones and wood are used to create a unified architectural language, establishing continuity between interior and exterior environments.
