Casa Mar d’Alecrim
Description
Casa Mar d’Alecrim is a Landscape Architecture project developed for a property in Odemira, establishing a refined approach to contemporary architecture in Portugal through the design of gardens and orchards. Conceived by Contacto Atlântico, a top architecture firm in Portugal, the project aligns with the principles of high-end architecture, combining environmental responsibility with a clear and coherent landscape strategy.
The concept is grounded in the balance between luxury and ecological awareness, valuing the local landscape and promoting sustainable fruit production. The proposal favours simple and legible solutions, carefully adapted to the climate and the specific conditions of the site.
Design Strategy, Materiality and Environmental Performance
Covering approximately 24,000 m², the project integrates ornamental gardens, productive areas, and native species selected for their resistance to drought. This strategy reduces maintenance requirements and optimises water efficiency throughout the year, reinforcing a sustainable and resilient landscape approach.
Materiality is expressed through natural textures and planting strategies that enhance the sensory quality of the space. The layout is carefully designed to take advantage of sun exposure, organising pedestrian routes that connect courtyards, meadows, the swimming pool, and seating areas. These connections create a continuous and fluid experience across the site.
Shade is strategically introduced to improve comfort, while open views are preserved to reinforce the relationship with the surrounding landscape. The result is a calm and immersive environment that encourages permanence and interaction with nature.
