Catarina Eufémia

The main objective of the Catarina Eufémia project is to recover the memory of Portuguese seaside holiday houses through a reinterpretation of coastal vernacular architecture. Respecting the existing configuration, the design develops a type building that acts as a matrix for the development of the entire urban ensemble.

The proposal introduces seven new buildings tuned to current patterns of living and to the quality of habitable space they provide. The project meets parking needs with basement levels, which keep cars out of sight and free the walkable urban space.

At present the street pattern reads as one storey. With this proposal it will read as two storeys with attic use. The ridge height fits the overall street reading, and the design aligns the seven buildings to reinforce the identity of Catarina Eufémia.
