Faculdade de Motricidade Humana
Description
The architectural project for the new bar at the Faculdade de Motricidade Humana, located in Cruz Quebrada, represents a focused intervention within contemporary architecture in Portugal, where functionality, comfort, and technical performance are carefully aligned. Developed by Contacto Atlântico, a top architecture firm in Portugal, the project reflects the principles of high-end architecture, applied to a space designed for intensive and everyday use.
The proposal centres on the remodelling, upgrading, and reorganisation of student support areas, creating an environment tailored to the needs of students and users. Wellbeing, thermal comfort, and spatial clarity guide the intervention, ensuring a balanced and efficient architectural response.
Architectural Design, Materiality and Performance
The design prioritises clarity, durability, and energy efficiency through a rigorous technical approach. Continuous epoxy resin flooring ensures resistance and ease of maintenance, while masonry walls with thermal insulation improve overall performance. Suspended plasterboard ceilings with acoustic insulation contribute to a controlled and comfortable interior environment.
Materiality is defined by durability, hygiene, and long-term performance. Waterproofing solutions are carefully implemented in wet areas and technical roofs, ensuring reliability and resilience over time.
In the bar and refectory areas, the design emphasises functionality and hygiene. Washable finishes, integrated equipment, and technical worktops support efficient daily operation. Ventilation and lighting systems are seamlessly incorporated into the architectural elements, reinforcing clarity and performance.
Leading Architecture Firm in Portugal: Functionality and User Experience
The relationship between architecture and use is central to the project, ensuring that the space responds effectively to intensive occupation. Circulation is intuitive, and spatial organisation supports both efficiency and comfort.
This intervention demonstrates how architecture can elevate functional spaces through precision and technical rigor. As part of Contacto Atlântico’s portfolio, it reinforces the studio’s position as a leading architecture firm in Portugal, recognised for delivering efficient, durable, and well-resolved design solutions.
