Horta dos Machados
Description
The Horta dos Machados architecture project, created by Contacto Atlântico, introduces a contemporary vision for low-density tourism in Melides. This hotel is made up of private villas that blend into the landscape and offer guests privacy, comfort, and peace.
The project occupies a 900 m² plot, located just 2 km from Praia da Vigia. It includes 44 villas, in T1 and T2 layouts, with sizes ranging from 255 m² to 650 m². Contacto Atlântico designed each unit to follow the natural terrain, maximize sun exposure, and allow for cross ventilation.
The architecture of Horta dos Machados follows a clear and simple language. Natural materials like wood, stone, and lime plaster enhance the project’s connection with its surroundings. In addition, the pathways provide shade, privacy, and easy access to outdoor areas.
This project stands out due to its clean volumes and discreet integration into the Alentejo landscape. It avoids visual noise and embraces calm geometry.
Each villa offers private terraces and garden areas, creating a sense of retreat. The layout of the houses encourages outdoor living and quiet contemplation. As a result, guests feel connected to the environment throughout their stay.
Inside, the design ensures open spaces, natural light, and a smooth flow between rooms. Therefore, the living experience becomes both comfortable and serene.
The Horta dos Machados architecture expresses Contacto Atlântico’s vision for thoughtful and sustainable tourism. It respects the land, values time, and places quality above excess.
