KIKO Milano Augusta
Description
KIKO Milano Augusta occupies a historic building on Rua Augusta, in Lisbon, with a gross area of 582.12 m². The project represents a precise intervention in contemporary architecture in Portugal, focused on the conservation and adaptation of an existing structure to accommodate a new retail concept. Designed by Contacto Atlântico, a top architecture firm in Portugal, the project reflects the principles of high-end architecture, balancing heritage preservation with commercial functionality.
The intervention transforms the former Nunes Corrêa dressmaking store into a contemporary cosmetics space for the Percassi group. This transition is guided by a clear objective: to update the building while maintaining its historical identity and architectural character.
Architectural Design, Materiality and Retail Experience
The design adapts the interior to its new use through rigorous technical, functional, and aesthetic criteria. Layout, lighting, and finishes are carefully developed to support retail operations, ensuring clarity in circulation and an efficient customer experience.
Materiality plays a central role in bridging past and present. Elements such as wood finishes, pilasters, and fitting rooms reinterpret the language of the original store, preserving its memory while integrating new components aligned with the brand’s identity. This layered approach creates a dialogue between heritage and contemporary retail design.
Lighting is strategically integrated to highlight products and define spatial zones, reinforcing both functionality and atmosphere. The result is a space that is visually coherent, adaptable, and aligned with the operational needs of the brand.
Leading Architecture Firm in Portugal: Heritage and Brand Identity
The relationship between architecture and identity is central to the KIKO Milano Augusta project, ensuring that the design reflects both the history of the site and the contemporary positioning of the brand. The intervention maintains the spirit of the original space while introducing a clear and recognisable retail environment.
KIKO Milano Augusta stands as a clear example of how architectural rehabilitation can support commercial transformation without compromising heritage value. As part of Contacto Atlântico’s portfolio, it reinforces the studio’s position as a leading architecture firm in Portugal, recognised for delivering refined and context-sensitive retail projects.
