Quinta in Évora
Description
Quinta in Évora is a comprehensive residential and equestrian project that reflects a refined approach to contemporary architecture in Portugal, where rehabilitation and landscape integration are carefully balanced. Designed by Contacto Atlântico, a top architecture firm in Portugal, the project embodies the principles of high-end architecture, combining rural identity with contemporary functionality.
Located on a large estate near Évora, the intervention transforms a set of existing buildings while preserving the character of the Alentejo landscape. The project establishes a cohesive environment where architecture, nature, and lifestyle are closely connected.
Architectural Design, Materiality and Landscape Integration
The proposal includes the renovation of three main buildings dedicated to residential use, atelier space, and guest accommodation, resulting in a total gross area of over 1,400 m². These volumes are complemented by a range of support structures, including equestrian boxes, a riding arena, a swimming pool, an outdoor kitchen, changing facilities, and a tennis court, forming a complete and functional estate.
The architectural strategy follows the natural topography of the site, ensuring a sensitive implantation that enhances views and solar exposure. This approach reinforces the connection between interior spaces and the surrounding landscape, promoting comfort and continuity.
Materiality is defined by the use of traditional elements such as lime plaster, wood, and local stone, ensuring coherence with the regional context. These materials are combined with modern systems for climate control, security, and energy efficiency, supporting both performance and durability.
