São Julião 37

Description

São Julião 37 is a rehabilitation project by Contacto Atlântico. It stands in Baixa Pombalina, one of Lisbon’s most historic neighborhoods, just steps away from the Tagus River.

The building has a gross area of 1,150 m² and rises across seven floors. Today, it hosts tourist accommodation, reception areas, vertical circulation, and support spaces. As a result, the new layout improves both comfort and functionality.

Contacto Atlântico carefully preserved key elements of the original structure. For example, the team maintained the central staircase, the traditional façade, and the original window openings. At the same time, they introduced efficient systems that enhance thermal comfort, acoustic performance, and energy efficiency.

Inside, light wood, white stucco, and natural stone create a timeless and refined atmosphere. In addition, the team fully upgraded bathrooms and technical areas with elegant and durable finishes. Consequently, the interiors combine heritage with contemporary standards.

One of the main strengths of São Julião 37 lies in its architectural balance. The design respects the building’s historical identity while also delivering a contemporary experience for tourists and guests. In this way, urban rehabilitation supports both heritage preservation and city revitalization.

Protecting Portuguese heritage through architecture is essential. It preserves cultural memory, enriches the city, and promotes sustainable tourism.
