Senhora do Monte
Description
The Senhora do Monte project presents a refined intervention within contemporary architecture in Portugal, reinterpreting the language of a traditional Portuguese house through the integration of artistic elements. Designed by Contacto Atlântico, a top architecture firm in Portugal, the project reflects the principles of high-end architecture, where heritage and artistic expression are carefully balanced.
The concept is defined by the introduction of stained-glass elements, both inside and outside the building, establishing a dialogue between tradition and contemporary design. This approach enhances the identity of the residence while maintaining its original character.
Architectural Design, Materiality and Artistic Expression
Inside the house, a stained-glass composition with organic forms and vibrant colours is positioned beneath the wooden staircase. This element filters natural light and projects warm reflections across the interior, transforming light into a central architectural feature.
Externally, the intervention continues through the design of the gate and side door, where a geometric stained-glass composition in red, yellow, green, and white contrasts with the white façade and yellow base. The surrounding garden patio reinforces this composition, creating a layered and expressive entrance sequence.
Materiality plays a central role in articulating this relationship between architecture and art. The stained glass introduces colour and texture, while the existing materials provide a neutral and consistent backdrop, allowing the intervention to stand out with clarity.
Leading Architecture Firm in Portugal: Tradition and Contemporary Identity
The relationship between architecture and artistic expression is central to the Senhora do Monte project, ensuring that the intervention enhances the existing building without compromising its essence.
By introducing carefully designed elements, the project creates a distinctive identity that bridges past and present. Senhora do Monte stands as a clear example of how architecture can incorporate art to enrich spatial experience.
As part of Contacto Atlântico’s portfolio, it reinforces the studio’s position as a leading architecture firm in Portugal, recognised for delivering thoughtful and context-driven residential projects.
