The Loft

The Loft, completed in 2021 and located in Alcabideche, is a compact residential project with 89 m² that reflects a refined approach to contemporary architecture in Portugal. Designed by Contacto Atlântico, a top architecture firm in Portugal, the project embodies the principles of high-end architecture, where simplicity, spatial clarity, and material expression define the living experience.

Conceived as a single continuous volume, the project brings together kitchen, dining, and sleeping areas within an open-plan layout. This unified space is designed to maximise natural light throughout the day, creating a calm and fluid environment adapted to contemporary living.

Architectural Design, Materiality and Spatial Continuity

The architectural concept is defined by continuity and restraint, allowing the space to be read as a cohesive whole. The exposed wooden structure introduces rhythm and hierarchy, creating a “house within a house” that adds both intimacy and warmth to the interior.

Materiality plays a central role in shaping the atmosphere. Light walls, wooden flooring, and essential furnishings reinforce a sense of openness, while ensuring comfort and flexibility in everyday use. The selection of materials is carefully balanced to maintain clarity while enhancing the tactile quality of the space.

A large glazed opening establishes a direct connection between the interior and the garden, extending the living space outward and reinforcing the relationship with the surrounding landscape. This connection enhances both light and spatial perception, creating a seamless transition between inside and outside.
