Ventura Terra
Description
Ventura Terra is a rehabilitation project located at Rua Alexandre Herculano, 57, in Lisbon. The building was originally designed by Miguel Ventura Terra and won the Prémio Valmor in 1903. Today, it has been reimagined by architect André Caiado for a new use.
This Lisbon building combines historical preservation with a contemporary program of services and residential use. The design keeps key elements of the original structure while introducing new systems that ensure comfort and sustainability.
The renovation focused on maintaining the identity of the historic architecture. It preserved stone façades, metalwork, and wooden features, using traditional materials alongside modern construction techniques. The central staircase was restored, and a discreet elevator was added to improve accessibility.
Outside, the landscaped courtyard creates a peaceful green space. It connects the building to its surroundings and provides a quiet retreat in the city.
Ventura Terra is a clear example of how architectural rehabilitation in Lisbon can honor the past while preparing buildings for the future. The project shows how heritage can live on through thoughtful and respectful transformation.
