Description
The project reconnects the riverfront with daily life in Vila Real de Santo António. It adopts a contemporary language and values river views. In addition, it strengthens the direct relationship with the Guadiana. It clearly defines public and private areas for safety and comfort. Thus, it invites residents and visitors to enjoy a renewed waterfront. The urban design favours pedestrian routes, shade and continuous cornice lines. In this way, the daily experience becomes clearer and more pleasant.
The buildings reinterpret southern vernacular architecture with contained volumes and well-proportioned openings. Materials such as mineral render and timber ensure climatic performance and durability. At ground level, the programme activates the street with shops and services. On the upper floors, housing predominates. Therefore, the block stays lively throughout the day.
Finally, the intervention restores urban continuity and links memory with present use. Thus, Vila Real de Santo António regains a direct relationship with the Guadiana.
