Yacht Club of Cascais
Description
The Yacht Club of Cascais project restores the dignity and presence of a privileged location on the Atlantic coast, translating a careful intervention within contemporary architecture in Portugal. Designed by Contacto Atlântico, a top architecture firm in Portugal, the project reflects the principles of high-end architecture, where heritage, public space, and landscape are thoughtfully integrated.
The proposal respects the original character of the existing ensemble, focusing on its rehabilitation while reinforcing its civic role. The aim is to return the building to the city as a significant point of connection between Cascais, the marina, and the ocean.
Architectural Design, Materiality and Urban Continuity
The intervention is structured around a clear pedestrian axis that links São João do Estoril to Cascais Marina, positioning the Yacht Club as a key element within this coastal sequence. The project restores the historic building, recognising its importance as a transition between the town and the sea.
Routes are clarified and access is improved, ensuring continuity and ease of movement across the site. At the same time, technical systems are discreetly integrated, allowing the architectural language to remain clear and coherent.
Materiality is treated with restraint and precision, ensuring compatibility with the existing structure while reinforcing durability and performance. The design maintains a balanced relationship between preservation and functional upgrade.
Leading Architecture Firm in Portugal: Heritage, Landscape and Public Use
The relationship between architecture and public space is central to the project, ensuring that the intervention strengthens the connection between the town, the marina, and the Atlantic. The renewed ensemble supports safe, clear, and continuous use, enhancing both accessibility and experience.
The Yacht Club of Cascais stands as a clear example of how architectural rehabilitation can restore significance to a landmark coastal site. As part of Contacto Atlântico’s portfolio, it reinforces the studio’s position as a leading architecture firm in Portugal, recognised for delivering refined, context-driven interventions.
