Campina Villa
Description
Campina Villa, a typical late 19th-century estate set in the hills of the Algarve, reflects a refined intervention in contemporary architecture in Portugal, where restoration and expansion are carefully balanced. Designed by Contacto Atlântico, a top architecture firm in Portugal, the project embodies the principles of high-end architecture, preserving identity while introducing improvements in comfort and functionality.
The intervention respects the rustic character and family-oriented spirit of the original property, ensuring continuity with its historical and cultural context. At the same time, contemporary elements are introduced with precision, allowing the house to respond to present-day living standards without compromising its essence.
Architectural Design, Materiality and Spatial Continuity
The rehabilitation of the main house and the former stables is carried out with a careful and measured approach. Traditional materials such as stone and wood are preserved and complemented with modern technical solutions, ensuring both authenticity and performance.
The spatial organisation follows the logic of traditional rural dwellings, maintaining a clear and functional layout while adapting it to contemporary lifestyles. This balance reinforces the coherence of the architectural language and supports everyday use.
Materiality plays a central role in connecting past and present, allowing new and existing elements to coexist naturally. The intervention maintains a restrained and cohesive expression, where each addition is integrated with clarity and intention.
The expansion introduces two new volumes and a large swimming pool, establishing a strong relationship between interior and exterior spaces. These elements create a fluid transition between built form and landscape, enhancing the overall spatial experience.
Leading Architecture Firm in Portugal: Heritage, Landscape and Living
The relationship between architecture and landscape is fundamental to the Campina Villa project, ensuring that the intervention remains closely connected to its surroundings. The design enhances the natural setting while preserving the identity of the original estate.
Campina Villa is conceived as an intergenerational retreat, where memory, landscape, and contemporary living coexist. The project demonstrates how architectural rehabilitation and expansion can create a balanced and enduring residential environment.
As part of Contacto Atlântico’s portfolio, it reinforces the studio’s position as a leading architecture firm in Portugal, recognised for delivering sophisticated and context-sensitive residential projects.
