NYX Store
Description
The NYX Store on Rua do Loreto represents a precise intervention within contemporary architecture in Portugal, focused on adapting an existing space to a new retail identity while preserving its architectural integrity. Designed by Contacto Atlântico, a top architecture firm in Portugal, the project reflects the principles of high-end architecture, where restraint, clarity, and functionality guide the design process.
The intervention takes place within an existing building whose morphological and architectural characteristics are fully maintained. The primary objective is to adapt the space to accommodate a NYX Store, part of the L’Oréal group, ensuring that the new use is supported without compromising the original structure.
Architectural Design, Materiality and Retail Adaptation
The design approach is defined by minimal intervention, allowing the existing architectural language to remain intact. Exterior changes are deliberately limited, focusing only on essential adjustments required for the new retail function.
A key modification involves resizing the fixed sign above the entrance to integrate a lightbox with the brand’s cut-out logo. This intervention ensures visibility and brand presence while maintaining coherence with the façade. Additionally, the removal of skirtings allows for full-height openings, enhancing transparency and strengthening the relationship between interior and street.
Materiality is treated with consistency and restraint, ensuring compatibility with the existing building while supporting the technical and functional requirements of the store. Inside, the remodelling introduces the necessary infrastructure to accommodate retail operations, maintaining clarity and efficiency in the spatial organisation.
Leading Architecture Firm in Portugal: Precision and Brand Integration
The relationship between architecture and brand identity is central to the NYX Store project, ensuring that the space reflects the visual language of the brand while respecting its architectural context.
This intervention demonstrates how a controlled and minimal approach can successfully adapt existing buildings to new commercial uses. As part of Contacto Atlântico’s portfolio, it reinforces the studio’s position as a leading architecture firm in Portugal, recognised for delivering refined and context-sensitive retail environments.
