Rossio 62
Description
Project Rossio 62 rehabilitates one of the buildings that frame Praça D. Pedro IV in the Rossio, Lisbon. The aim is to recover the spirit of the original construction and correct later alterations.
The building has five storeys above ground and one basement. Inside, the plan is reorganised to suit the programme. Circulation is clear and the layout sets uses and services into simple, legible zones. In this way the building supports present-day use while keeping its memory.
In the retail units, the former telecommunications shop is redesigned. Café Gelo and the Espingardaria remain in place. In addition, the annex that belonged to the pharmacy is closed and the façade returns to its original design.
Works focus on the interior and keep the volume unchanged. Materials and details respect the historic fabric. Where needed, new elements are reversible and simple to maintain. Therefore, Rossio 62 balances conservation and everyday use in a central square of Lisbon.
